Lighthouse Park Engagement Photos | Jessica and Brandon’s Tips for Couples

Most of my couples choose to have their engagement sessions at locations that showcase the beautiful mountains and West Vancouver seaside of the Pacific Ocean. After all, we live here and we love it and are proud of the scenery we have here. That’s why it’s no surprise when Jessica and Brandon chose to have their engagement session at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. Lighthouse Park Engagement Photos

The moment I met Jessica and Brandon, it’s as though we just clicked. They are a “joyful, adventurous couple in love”. Friendly, bubbly, and very approachable. During our initial phone call, Brandon said that Jessica’s personality is “very contagious”. I would have to 100% agree! I felt energetic and excited being with them, despite having carried my gear and hiked through Lighthouse Park for a few hours. We had so much fun together that evening, sharing much laughter and conversation, popping champagne, and ending the night with me reaching into their stash of Trader Joe’s Crispy Crunchy Broccoli Florets and absolutely loving the taste of it.

Jessica and Brandon, thank you for the honor of letting me photograph your love for each other in this special period. I cannot wait to photograph your wedding next year and seeing you two tie the knot!

And because I have witnessed their interaction with each other, I’ve decided to pick Jessica’s bride-to-be brain. Jessica and Brandon are playful and loving with each other, and are wonderful partners. I think her experience and insights will be helpful to future brides who are here on my blog 😉

1. Why do you want to get engagement photos done?

Photos are such a wonderful way of documenting memories. My fiancé and I love taking photos wherever we go. An engagement session was the perfect opportunity to document our special milestone. Not to mention share that excitement with friends and family through some photos! Also, Vivian did a wonderful job. My favorite photos from the shoot are now on every phone screensaver, desktop background, and TV background slideshow possible.

2. Why did you pick Lighthouse Park for your engagement session?

My fiancé and I have been together for almost 11 years now (YA I know! About time! Just kidding ?). Lighthouse Park has always been one of our favorite places to go. We love it for a casual date or for a quick, fun adventure as we run around on the rocks and admire the beauty of it all. This location offers a stunning view of where the land meets water, beautiful sunset skies, a green forest filled with tall trees and that wonderful fresh air atmosphere, and all the memories we’ve had here since we were young. It was no doubt one of our top choices for our engagement shoot. One downside, Lighthouse park has a parking lot but it is often full so finding parking there can take some time depending on the time of day.

3. What are some things in general that you have found to have enhanced your relationship?

We try to do this every day. Some people may call this date night, but we modify that and just call it “alone time.” This is where we put our phones and any other distractions away, and just talk and connect with each other. Usually, this is done by:

  • having a dinner picnic out on the grass together
  • a long walk around Deer Lake, Lighthouse Park
  • just around the neighborhood looking at all the different houses and imagining our future together
4. What is some advice you have for newly engaged couples planning their wedding so far?

If you have the time, do your research! It’s fun! Here are a few ways:

  1. Go on Instagram
  2. Go to wedding shows
  3. Ask your engaged or married friends
  4. Join wedding groups on Facebook
  5. Create an excel spreadsheet of research you’ve done

I love going on social media and learning from others, and finding inspiration from vendors who are within our city. Instagram helps me see the real photos from different vendors’ work and to more easily envision my own wedding knowing they are all located close by.

Facebook wedding groups have been very helpful too because it’s a community of brides-to-be or just married couples. There we can talk about experiences, recommendations, advice, selling and buying, etc.

I’ve created an excel spreadsheet of research I’ve done. I’ve also included notes to remember all my thoughts about each vendor. Include prices, hours, if you’ve contacted already, your feelings on their work, their website or links to pictures of their work. This allows you to organize different category of vendors (Venue, photographer, cinematographer, officiant, ect.) and allows you to compare prices and packages!

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE COUPLES OUT THERE! MAKE IT ENJOYABLE!
