Cute story alert! Jamilla was only seven years old when she first met Melvin. It wasn’t until some years later that they got to know each other more. Even though Melvin was still young, he saved up money and bought her an iPod mini and told Jamilla that he loved her. At that time, it was an expensive gift, and Jamilla was touched that he was willing to save up for her. However, she was not ready to date right then and there.

For Melvin and Jamilla, God is the foundation of their relationship. When I asked what was most important for them, Jamilla quoted 1 John 4:19 from the Bible. “We love because he first loved us.” God is the one who first loved us, and through experiencing God we are able to love each other well. Truly, Jesus Christ showed us what true love is: dying to ourselves for the sake of others. John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Melvin and Jamilla, you guys rock and I look forward to you two tying the knot next year! May God forever be your foundation and grow your relationship into a beautiful marriage that would be an inspiration and encouragement to others!
